Magistrate Albert Moody presiding over the Freetown Magistrate Court N0.1 at Siaka Steven’s Street Main Law Court Building in Freetown yesterday July 26th, 2017, has granted bail to one Francis Sahr Josiah who is alleged to have disparaged the repetition and image of the Honorable Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Bangura and his family members on various WhatsApp platforms in the view of right thinking members of the public.
The accused person, Francis Sahr Josiah was arraigned in court on six counts charge of defamatory libel, knowingly publishing false defamatory libel and insulting conduct contrary to section 3 (1) of the Public Order Act No.46 of 1965.
According to the particulars of offense Fransic Sahr Josieh on Thursday July 13th, 2017, at Freetown Judicial District in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone maliciously published defamatory matter against the Honorable Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Bangura in the form of written words in WhatsApp Social Media Application groups ridiculing the Minister and his family in the view of the general public.
Alhaji A. M. Kamara representing the accused person made a passionate bail application for his client and Magistrate Albert Moody granted bail to the accused person in the sum of hundred million Leones and two sureties in like sum and bail to be approved by the Master and Registrar of the High Court of Freetown and Magistrate Albert Moody adjourned the matter to Tuesday August 1st, 2017 for continuation.
