A non-political community based organisation known as Community Aid Foundation (CAF) with the slogan: “Love Where You Live” is now poise to bring development nearer to the people and respond to community needs in and around Sima Town in the outskirt of Devil Hole along the Freetown/Waterloo Highway.

CAF was founded on February 26th, 2017, and registered with the Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) was on Saturday, July 29, 2017 officially launched by the Proprietor of Companero Hotel, Emmanuel Sesay at Sima Town in a short but impressive ceremony at the Take Courage Hall, Devil Hole.

The organisation was created mainly to respond to the growing desire of addressing socio-economic challenges affecting Lower and Upper Sima Town community of Devil hole and other communities within the western rural district.

CAF Director, Gilbert Bosco Nhabay speaking at the ceremony said, they realised that addressing issues related to health and sanitation improvement, community empowerment, educational enhancement–both formal and informal and youth capacity as well as child protection issues, can only be effectively coordinated within an organised group.

He said it was also observed that government can never respond to all of community needs, hence the need for a community based framework to implement complementary initiative to address gaps and inadequacies within the community.

Gilbert Bosco Nhabay said CAF is therefore committed to ensure communities where its operate in the western rural district maintain, improved health and sanitation conditions , create the enabling atmosphere and inspire children and youth to grow up and to be active and participating community members and mobilise communities to participate and align themselves with their development aspirations.

He said CAF has a membership of competent and qualified persons in the field of development, child protection business management research and health.

“Our foremost priority is to ensure our operational communities are set up as a model where its inhabitants take ownership of their development needs through a collective complimentary effort,” Gilbert Bosco Nhabay said.

He said CAF will mainly operate in the Sima Town, Devil hole and Rokel communities but will extend its operations in the western rural district area in the coming years.

CAF Vision is of a progressive, healthy, enlightened and peaceful society; while our Mission is to inspire community through collective solutions to respond to community inadequacies and development needs, the CAF Director said.

He furthered that, the objective is to promote and enhance educational development through support to local education institutions and improve knowledge of youth in practical skills and education that can make them entrepreneurs as well as empower those who have got little or no chance of formal education with basic technical/vocational skill.

Highlighting the core values Mr. Nhabay said, inclusion, equality, and integration; promotion of local talent and initiatives; quality programme delivery; voluntarism and self-development mind-set; and effective team building and development.

Statement were made by representatives from the Sierra Leone Police, Ministry of Education, and the Western Area Rural District Council while the ceremony was chaired by Pastor Sandrie Turay.
