Hon. Dauda Kallon of Constituency 93, the Focal Point of the Parliamentary Action Group on the SDGs has assured the United Nations High-Level Political Forum (UN HLPF) in New York of government’s unflinching commitment in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.
Addressing the top brass of the United Nations, colleague Members of Parliament from around the world and a global assemblage of Civil Society Organizations (CSO), Hon.Kallon called for open, inclusive, participatory and transparent approaches in implementing the Global Agenda. The thrust of his presentation was a talk on how the national implementation process on the SDGs should “leave no one behind”.
It will be recalled that Sierra Leone acceded to the Global Agenda in 2015 as a successor to the Millennium Development Goals. In 2016, GoSL opted at the UN HLPF to do a voluntary National Review as a vehicle of assessing government efforts in rolling its national development agenda as contextualized by the SDGs.
Sierra Leone has so far gone ahead at the Global stage in keeping up the momentum of delivery by integrating the SDGs within national development plans.
The highlight of his presentation was the unique model Sierra Leone Parliament has adopted to partner with the CSO in the implementation process of the SDGs.
Other members of the parliamentary delegation include Hon Rosaline Smith and Mr. Momodu Lamin Deen Rogers, Desk Officer of the Parliamentary Action Group on the SDGs.
