Scholarships for Science Female Students in Sierra Leone

Education, Science and Technology Minister, Dr. Minkailu Bah says all female students admitted into the Science Faculty of the various tertiary institutions in the country will automatically benefit from the government scholarship scheme throughout the period of their course.

This was disclosed during the launch of the FAWE Junior Secondary School in Waterloo.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Bah said there will no longer be a competition between female and male students over scholarships as this new government policy seeks to encourage female students to enroll in the Science Faculty of education.

He noted that the huge disparity that exists between male and female students in institutions of learning across the country is a major factor in the impoverishment of girl child education.

He emphasised that a country with high female illiteracy rate can hardly develop and therefore called on both local and international partners to continue assisting the country in promoting girl child education.

He also encouraged female senior school leavers to consider enrolling themselves in the science faculty of the respective institutions of higher education.

"The number of science female students in the countrys tertiary institutions is limited and we hope that the new provision of scholarships will attract more female students in this faculty," he said.
