In Sierra Leone, President Ernest Bai Koroma Praises Prof. Strasser-King

The President of Sierra Leone and Chancellor of the University Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, on the occasion of the inauguration of the new university court at Mary Kingsley Auditorium, Fourah Bay College, yesterday Thursday 19th February 2009 praised the outgoing members of the Court, especially Prof. Victor E.H. Strasser-King, for his "remarkable service" to university education in the latterís capacity as Pro Chancellor for the past three years.
"I acknowledge that he competently represented the office of the Chancellor in Court sessions during his tenure. We shall certainly remember the exemplary work all of them played in enhancing higher education in Sierra Leone." President Koroma told his audience
President Koroma then exhorted the members of the new Court that, "you have no choice but to live up to the great expectations accompanying your new positions. The work of the University Court requires courage in times of difficulty and prudence in terms of critical decision-making".
Earlier, the President had expressed his delight to perform, "a significant task in fulfillment of one of the provisions of the Universities Act 2005."
Dr. Koroma praised the state of tertiary education in the country thus: "This event marks yet another milestone in the annals of this University; and in view of the smooth transition from the old university system to that which obtains today, it is evident that we are indeed making steady progress in tertiary education in Sierra Leone".
