From Awareness Times Newspaper in Freetown

Sierra Leone Police Issue Invitation Letters for Journalists to answer to Seditious Libel Investigations
May 14, 2009, 19:00

Junior administrative and technical staff of Awareness Times yesterday afternoon at around 16:00GMT had to unceremoniously abandon the newspaper’s offices after intelligence was received that Leather Boot and other well known APC operatives were planning to launch a raid on the offices. The young female secretaries, in fear for their sacred womanhood and the other able bodied men who had no weapon with which to defend themselves, fled in panic. In their footsteps also fled the day time watchman thus leaving the offices abandoned. By the time B.W. Bockarie and Umaru Sitta Turay arrived to help with the day’s editing (in the absence of Abdul Karim Kabia), there was no-one present and the steel doors were firmly shut. Thus, Awareness Times was unable to hit the streets of Freetown today. Meanwhile, to keep our readers abreast, we are publishing online some of the articles published in today’s edition of the New People (Sierra Leone). Earlier yesterday, Senior Police Officers had acted on the request issued by Publisher Sylvia Blyden for them to put down in writing why they wanted her for questioning which merited her offices being ransacked. The policemen dropped off the two letters reproduced below which speak for themselves.
