The President of the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency President Hu Jintao, has extended an official invitation to His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, to pay a state visit to the People’s Republic of China on official matters. President Koroma will be visiting the People’s Republic of China from the 24th to 30th of May 2009.

This disclosure was made on 18th May 2009 by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Mr. Qiu Shaofang while addressing the press at his Spur Loop Embassy. Ambassador Shaofang further informed that during the visit, President Koroma and President Jintao will hold official talks and exchanging views on bilateral relations and other issues of common interest, adding that President Ernest Bai Koroma will also visit some cities outside Beijing.

He went on to state that China and Sierra Leone are both developing countries that have much to learn from each other and have great potentials in further cooperation in many fields.

The Ambassador Extraordinary stated that President Koroma’s visit to China will not only strengthen the personal relation between the two leaders, but will also cement the friendship of the two.

“The visit will start a new stage of ‘Sino-Sierra Leonean’ bilateral relations. I believe, with our joint efforts, H.E President Koroma’s visit to China will surely turn out to be a complete success.

“As the mutual political trust between our two countries has further strengthened, we have had more frequent high-level official visits in recent years including that of the First Lady, the Speaker of Parliament and several cabinet ministers”, he stated.
