One Daniel Thompson, who has allegedly been impersonating to be the Deputy Minister of Mines, has been arrested at No. 39 Water Street in Freetown.
This information was revealed to the Awareness Times newspaper by the Business and Finance Manager of Invictus Security Agency, Madam Margaret Johnson.
According to Madam Johnson, Daniel Thompson telephoned her a few days ago, using a Comium phone number +232 (33) 991631 and identified himself as the Deputy Minister of Mines.
"The caller said he wanted to use his position as a minister to help my security agency secure a contract at the African Minerals," she explained, adding that the caller therefore requested for the contact number of the Manager of the Agency "which I gave to him".
She further revealed that after several discussions with authorities of the Agency, Thompson assured the Agency that it will secure the said contract by the end of this month. According to her, the caller requested for what he described as a small package as a compensation for his gesture.
Madam Johnson added that Thompson, who had convinced them to believe he was the Deputy Mines Minister, collected the sum of Le.500,000 (Five Hundred Thousand Leones), adding that he even requested for US$ currency, which was not available.
According to her, they later suspected that something fishy has happened and decided to invite the fake ‘Deputy Minister’ again to the office, on the pretext of giving him another package.
"He arrived at about 11:30 am and was at the office when we called the police who effected the arrest," she revealed.
The suspect was whisked to the Congo Cross Police Division for investigation.
Thompson has however confessed to LUC Jobe of the Central Division that he was guilty as accused, and furthered that he is working in collaboration with a man he identified as Med.
