THE PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS REGISTRATION COUNCIL

REGISTRATION AND REGULATION OF ENGINEERING IN SIERRA LEONE

The Professional Engineers Act 1990 (Section 21(1) and Section 22(1)) makes provision for the registration of Professional Engineers and the regulation of Engineering in Sierra Leone.

A Professional Engineers Registration Council of which the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers provides the bulk of the membership, established by this Act is responsible for the registration and practice of Engineering in Sierra Leone and has the following core functions:

The registration of Professional Engineers under this Act.
The Prescription of standards of professional conduct and ethics for Professional Engineers.
The Control of the practice of Engineering and
The maintenance of a register of Professional Engineers.

The Professional Engineers Registration Council would like to notify and remind all users and providers of Engineering Services, including the general public, establishments and individual professionals that effective 1st January 2010.

a) All persons practicing Engineering in Sierra Leone are required to register with the Council.
b) All persons or Institutions intending to engage or have engaged the services of any professional engineer are requested to ensure that the Engineer is currently registered with the Council to practice.
c) Standards of professional performance, conduct and ethics in Engineering Practice will be monitored and disciplinary action taken against defaulters.
d) AN Registered Engineers must have a Practising Certificate for the year.

You are reminded that it is an offence to contravene provisions of this Act. A list of Registered Professional Engineers and Establishments will be published in the print and electronic media on 1st week of April 2010.
