PUBLIC NOTICE

RAMPANT ENCROACHMENT/OBSTRUCTION UPON THE RIGHT-OF-WAY OF ROADS NATIONWIDE, ESPECIALLY WITHIN THE GROWING CITIES OF BO, KENEMA, MAKENI, AND THE FREETOWN MUNICIPALITY

 

Whilst the SIERRA LEONE ROADS AUTHORITY (SLRA) strives to maintain the National Road  System using its meager financial resources, the effort is most times frustrated and rendered counter  productive  by Road Users, in particular, property developer and defiant, willful encroachers.


The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) continues to observe with grave concern the ENCROACHMENT and OBSTRUCTION with impunity upon the RIGHT-OF-WAY of ROADS NATIONWIDE, contrary to the SLRA ACT, 1992 and the LAWS OF SIERRA LEONE-: Cap. 66, Cap.81, Cap.129, Cap 131, Cap.132, etc.etc. The GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE, in its wisdom to provide road reserves, has vested the RIGHT-OF-WAY of ROADS in the SLRA.


Therefore, as OWNERS of the LAND (THE RIGHT OF WAY), and in exercise of its FUNCTIONS, especially CONTROL, the SLRA is the sole body to authorize the use of the RIGHT-OF-WAY for any development or the erection/placement of any structure. Any such development must be governed by Rules and Regulations which have been passed on to the Authority (SLRA) by the Government of Sierra Leone and should be enforced by law thereof.

 

In view of the above, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority therefore seeks to warn all Encroachers upon the RIGHT-OF-WAY of roads, especially those who have erected their FRONT PROPERTY BEACONS\STRUCTURES within the Right-Of-Way of Roads throughout the Country some of these roads\ streets include:- FREETOWN, BO-KENEMA HIGHWAY, BO-PUJEHUN ROAD, MATTRU ROAD, YELE ROAD IN BO CITY, WAHMANN ABU ROAD, BLAMA ROAD, HANGGHA ROAD, DAMA ROAD, COMBEMA ROAD IN KENEMA CITY, BISHOP AZZOLINI HIGHWAY, ROGBANE ROAD, KABALA EOAD, MAGBURAKA ROAD IN MAKENI CITY, JENNER WRIGHT ROAD, the BAI BUREH ROAD, the NEW FREETOWN WATERLOO-MASIAKA HIGHWAY, the BLACKHALL ROAD, the KISSY BY PASS ROAD, WILKINSON ROAD, WILBERFORCE REGENT-GRAFTON ROAD, TARGRIN-LUNGI-PORT LOKO ROAD. All these roads have definite and lawful RIGHT-OF-WAY widths. THE PUBLIC IS HEREBY URGED TO COOPERATE FULLY WITH THE SLRA TO IMPROVE ON OUR ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY

 

Please note that it is the absolute RIGHT of the GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE TO SECURE ITS RIGHT-OF-WAY OF ROADS NATIONWIDE. ENCROACHERS are hereby once more strongly warned in their own interests to remove their structures (permanent and temporal) from the RIGHT-OF-WAY of roads without any further delay.

 

Failure to do so will lead to legal action and ultimate demolition of these structures by the GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE at the encroachers expense.
