The principal of the Freetown Secondary School for Girls, Madam Monica E. Bobson Sesay has reacted to news that she is to account for Le. 28,456,200.00 (twenty eight million four hundred and fifty six thousand and two hundred Leones)
In a press briefing, she informed of how she had been advised by the School’s Board of Trustees to avoid commenting on the issue just as was published on Thursday 29th April 2010 by a local newspaper.
"But for the sake of transparency and accountability, I have decided to come and speak out on the truth to you journalists that the story is baseless, meant to soil my hard earned character." Madam Bobson Sesay said adding that her office was usually open in case journalists wanted to cross check any information. The Principal said she was confident that she was doing her job well as evidenced by her school’s improved performance in all external exams since she took over as principal.
Among the allegations levied against by the said newspaper included ‘exorbitant levy of admission fees on parents and guardians’.
"The allegation that I collect not less than Le.500,000 as admission fees per child is a figment of the author’s imagination as he did not cross check his source properly," she further charged. She also furthered that contrary to the newspaper claims, no pamphlet is sold in her school.
She said she was ready to defend herself at all times even if it takes her to the radio stations.
