U.S. Embassy Launches New Online Visa Application Form
May 10 - The U.S. Embassy is now using a new online form called the DS-160 for Nonimmigrant Visa (NIV) applications. NIVs are visas used to enter the U.S. temporarily, including visits for business, pleasure, study, and official diplomatic work. Effective immediately, all NIV applicants except fiancée visa (K-1) applicants must use the DS-160.
DS-160 is a fully web-based Nonimmigrant Visa application. The DS-160 incorporates all of the old Nonimmigrant Visa forms (DS-156, 157, 158, 156K, etc.) into one interactive format. It also allows applicants to upload a photo.
This is what has changed:
• You will now complete the application forms online at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/. Make sure to save your application to file often, as you may otherwise lose your application to a slow internet connection.
• Print out your confirmation page only, not your whole application, to bring to the U.S. Embassy on the day of your interview.
