New Insurance Policy for Boat Operators


It has been reported that, the Medical and General Insurance Company (MAGIC) is poised  to the rescue  boat owners and passengers plying the coastal waters of Sierra Leone . According to reports the Insurance Company has is planned to provide an appreciable insurance cover for their clients.  MAGIC Executive Chairman, Mr. Sheku Gibril Kamara has reportedly informed that the company intends to introduce the Marine Protection and Indemnity (PAI) insurance policy very soon.


Traders plan big demonstration


It is said that, traders who are burdened by ejection from the Victoria Park at Sewa Grounds in Central Freetown are planning to demonstrate against the continuous closure of the new market building which is yet under construction.  From monitored reports the traders were primarily ejected by the Freetown City Council so that a spacious and well secured modern structure could be erected to ease street trading, boost, and regularize revenue collection.


NATCOM Parliament sensitized Bo inhabitants

 

A Third National Telecommunication Consumer Parliament according to local media reports which sat in the southern headquarter town, Bo on Monday 17th May 2010 has been concluded.  The aimed at sensitizing service providers and consumers about the ways forward in the competitive and growing communication industry so that  parties involved could benefit appropriately .  The one-day session which is claimed was very educative, interactive, and informative attracted throng of attendees from all walks of life. 


Health Ministry destroys fake drugs worth Le 1.8 Billion


The Health Ministry in collaboration with Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone has reportedly destroyed fake and substandard drugs worth over One Billion Leones at the Bomeh in  Freetown . The fake and substandard drugs were seized from importers, drug peddlers and registered drug store and pharmaceutical outlets in the Western Area.  According to the Deputy Minister of Health, Mohamed D. Koroma, the importation of the fake drugs is mainly done by unscrupulous business persons at the detriment of consumers for their personal aggrandizements.


Husband kills wife over jealousy

 

Ishmael Kamara, a local farmer from Bunumbu III in the Kailahun District is alleged to have killed his wife Keima Kamara as a result of mad jealousy.  According to reports the accused and the deceased had bitter squabble at their farm after Keima received a mystery phone call that the husband alleged was her boyfriends.  The couple reportedly had a furious wrestle that resulted into multiple stabbing of the wife to death by Ishmael.  The accused is currently at remand whilst he is due to answer to charges of murder at the Kenema Magistrate Court .


NPA roped in massive extortion spree


Customers of the National Power Authority (NPA) electricity supply have reportedly expressed serious dissatisfaction over extortion by the Meter Section of the service provider in Freetown .  According to reports the employees of the Meter Section continuously obtain under duress money from customers who want to connect new meters.


Storm disaster rocks Kono

 

Hon. Philip T. Tondoneh of Constituency 24 in Kono has reportedly disclosed that Nimikoro Chiefdom has witnessed a heavy storm that gutted so many residential houses Schools, mosques, churches, and other valuable infrastructures. Apart from other localities in the constituency, Bumpeh, Badafayeh, and Nyamudu reports say suffered the most.  A post disaster management team is said has put modalities in place to address the plight of victims.
