A Nigerian national identified as Ferdinand Ekwiefe Okeke, who the police arrested on Sunday 11th April 2010 with 62 kilo of cocaine has made his first appearance in the Lungi International Airport Magistrate Court, Kafu Bullom Chiefdom in the Port Loko District. He appeared before Magistrate Henry Sandy on Friday 14th May 2010 for unlawful possession and trafficking of prohibited drugs contrary to Section 8 (a) of the National Drugs Control Act No. 7 of 2008 as amended.
The accused pleaded not guilty to all count charges as they were read out to him. He is being represented by lawyer F. Issa who applied for bail for his client on grounds of having reliable surety. Lawyer F. Issa also guaranteed his none interference with the prosecution witnesses, and that his client is not yet proven guilty so should be entitled to his right to bail.
Police prosecutor Inspector Tommy Zizer objected to bail with the argument that the allegation was serious and if granted bail, the accused would jump it, being a foreigner. Magistrate Henry Sandy in his wisdom took the prosecutorís argument into consideration and duly refused the accused bail, he was sent to remand at the Pademba Road Prisons. The matter was adjourned to the 20th May, 2010.
