Eighteen (18) years old Mildred Thomas of 28J Wharf Road Portee Wellington in Freetown has made her first appearance before Magistrate Davies Cole in Court No. 11 to answer to three count charges of Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent, Malicious Damage, and Assault to her landlord Mariama Kamara who is also the Complainant.
According to the particulars of offense, the accused person on 5th June 2010 splashed some very hot and boiling water on the complainant at their 28J Wharf Road Portee Wellington address.
Prosecuting in court on Tuesday 8th June 2010, Women Police Constable (WPC) Fofanah J. said they will not proceed with the matter for now on the grounds that the victim (complainant) is not feeling well and further objected to bail also on the grounds that the crime committed by the accused is grave. She further expressed fear that if the accused is granted bail, she might interfere with the witness.
Appealing on behalf of the accused, Defence Lawyer A.R. Koroma applied for bail to be granted to the accuse on the grounds that the crime she committed is open to bail. In his discretion, Magistrate Davies Cole granted the accused bail to the tune of twenty million Leones with two Sureties each being a house owner and adjourned the matter to Monday 28th June 2010.
