In Sierra Leone, Free Health Care set to reach all

In a bid to actualize His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koromaís clarion call for Free Health Care Delivery since 27th¬†April 2010, the Ministry of Health and Sanitation in collaboration with other stakeholders yesterday Monday 21st June 2010 reached an ultimatum that targeted beneficiaries in spite of localities must access the intended purposes.¬†


According to the Director of Reproductive Child Health, Dr. Samuel A .S .Kargbo the Free Health Care services are set to reach the length and breath of the country until health predicaments more so  maternal and infant mortality become a thing of the past.  On pessimistic views about the sustainability of the Free Health Care agenda, Dr. Kargbo assured the public that the government and its development partners are very much committed make it resentful since it will remove one of the most perennial bottlenecks in achieving  the Millennium Development Goals.


Retrospecting on the health status of the country, health officials said about 70% of the population below poverty line with per capita expenditure on health of   US $ 9.05 and US $ 12.16 in 2004 and 2006 suffered most.  Therefore, the priority of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation under the able leadership of Vice President Sam Samuel Sumana they asserted is the addressing the surge. 


This according to them would be achieved by 2010 to 2015 as stipulated by the National Health Sector Strategic Plan.  This they assured will be fruitful by the government through finances from WHO, UNICEF, DFID, Irish Aid and other development partners.
