Jun 25, 2010, 17:18

Sierra Leoneans from all walks of life have traveled in from the Provinces and also from beyond the country’s shores to give a fitting farewell today, June 25th 2010 to the Late Mrs. Makalay Lovan Koroma, Vice President of APC’s Women’s Congress who, very suddenly, passed away on June 16th 2010 at age 44 years only.

Fare thee Well Dear Sister!

Successful Homegoing Commences for APC’s Makalay

By Dauda Koroma

A successful Christian Vigil mass for the Late Mrs. Lovan Makalay Koroma yesterday June 24th 2010 took place at the Saint Anthony’s Church Brookfields at 7pm. It was the commencement of a grand homegoing and farewell events planned for a woman who is being mourned all over the country and the world at large.

The Preacher at last night’s Vigil was Rev. Dr Simmah who said no human can escape from death and so the Almighty God who gave Mrs. Lovan Makalay Koroma to us here on earth has called her back. He asked all to continue to pray for her soul to rest in peace even as he lamented that her loss was a huge blow to her family and the country as a whole. However, he urged the family not to question God but to accept God’s will even though it was difficult for them to lose Makalay at the tender age of only 44 years when she was just starting to enjoy life.

“We should not ask God why as he is the Creator but we should just give thanks to him for what he has done,” Rev. Simmah said adding a call for all within the late woman’s family and political party to love one another and help each other as assistance to others was a trait that the late Lovan Makalay Koroma was well known for whilst she was alive.

After the sermon, tributes where made by the family, the APC Party, Market Women and her newly launched organization FAMBUL!

The corpse of the late party strongwoman, who was the eldest daughter of late Police Chief James Bambay Kamara and the wife of the Assistant Finance Director at the National Revenue Authority Mr. Dura Koroma, will be laid out this morning at her husband’s residence of 2B Old Railway Line, Tengbeh Town from 9:30am to 11:30am following which she will be laid from 11:30am until 1:30pm at the APC Party Headquarters and eventually from 1:30pm until 2:30pm she would be given her last respects at the Catholic Church’s St. Anthony Hall following which a Catholic service will be held in the Church with her internment at the Kingtom Cemetery.

“Awareness Times newspaper continues to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the sorrowing relatives of a wonderful Sierra Leone sister whose camaraderie had cut across all shades of opinion and who had exhibited a perfect understanding of the importance of a free press in helping a ruling party to correct itself of its errors. Indeed, I can say that the All People’s Congress has lost a big cotton tree that they will find very difficult to replace. May her soul rest in perfect peace and may light perpetual shine upon her,” said Dr. Sylvia Blyden, the Publisher of this newspaper last night.
