H.E. President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, who also doubles as Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC) party, on Friday 25th June 2010, joined throngs of Sierra Leoneans from all walks of life at the Brookfields Headquarters of the APC, who braved the pouring rains to pay their last respects to the late Vice President of APC Women’s Congress, the late Mrs. Makalay Lovan Koroma.

At the laying out ceremony at APC Headquarters, President Koroma described the late Mrs. Makalay Koroma as a woman of substance, who selflessly worked towards the progress of the APC party from the days when they were in the wilderness of opposition many, many years ago and who continued to strengthen the party even more after they won the 2007 Elections. According to the sorrowful looking president, Makalay Koroma was like a sister to him and he felt the impact of her death deeply on a personal level.

"Makalay had the ability to easily mingle with people from all walks of life. She was also one of our country’s peacemakers," President Koroma said, adding that she had a unique ability to organize wonderful events. The President opined that "this death" is "an irreparable loss for the entire citizenry".

He disclosed that Makalay Koroma was active in political and other developmental activities, and was always at the forefront when it came to organizing women for progress in Sierra Leone.

"We will never forget the good works of the late woman and will continue to pray to the Almighty God to forgive whatever sins she might have committed and to grant her eternal rest" the president concluded.

Vice President Alhaji Sam Sumana expressed similar sentiments as the President. He emphasized that the late woman proved herself to be very accommodating. According to the VP, Makalay Koroma hardly gets annoyed and always found ways and means to handle challenges. He reiterated that the late woman would be missed by all and sundry.

Funeral service was held at the Saint Anthony Church before the casket was escorted to the Kingtom Cemetery by thousands of people including her family members and APC partisans who traveled in from all over Sierra Leone and beyond. The late Mrs. Koroma, the eldest daughter of the late police chief, Bambay Kamara, was laid to rest at the Kingtom Cemetery amidst loud weeping and sorrowful comments.

Until her sudden death, she was married to the Assistant Finance Director of the National Revenue Authority (NRA), Mr. Dura Koroma.

May her soul rest in perfect peace.
