Residents commends Lungi Police


Residents of Lungi were over the weekend reportedly commended the Sierra Leone Police for their effective performance in combating crime within the Port Loko District. The reports also allege that they extended the appreciation to President Koroma and the Inspector General of Police, Brima Acha Kamara for assigning superintendent Max Kanu to head Local Unit Command whose vigilance they allege has helped in curding the spate of armed robbery and other related criminal offences in that part of the country. 

 

Two Nigerians Arrested with Cocaine


Local tabloids have reported the arrest of two Nigerian nationals identified as Ajakaye Olikaye and Olikayode Lubokola with quantities of contraband drugs. The duo was reportedly intercepted at the Lungi International Airport on Friday 25th June 2010 with substances suspected to be cocaine with intent to illegally transport same abroad.  They were reportedly intercepted after suspicion that the cocaine were being in their internal possession.  They are now helping the operations, policy and planning department of the Murray Town Police with investigations.


Africell Donates 50 Motor Bikes to Retailers


One of the leading mobile telecommunications company in the country, Africell has reportedly donated a total of 50 motor bikes to Sim Pack retailers across the country.  Reports say each of the retailers was given a bike following special retailers draws that take place every Sunday in Freetown.  A retailer is expected to qualify if he/she recharges 2000 units, and if lucky wins a motor bike.  In all, about fifty retailers have reportedly won 50 motor bikes in separate draws so far.

 

Chief suspended for misappropriation


Section Chief Kapr Brima Yatheh of Neine Chiefdom in the Koinadugu District has been suspended for allegedly misappropriating local tax proceeds meant for district council development.  According to reports, the suspension came about after the discovery that the chief had failed to accounts for the sum of Le 500,000 in tax proceeds.  However, even as he has allegedly refunded the money, his reinstatement has reportedly caused mixed feelings amongst community members. 
 

 

An aged sent to Prison for fraud


An old man,  Tejan Nazir was on Wednesday reportedly sent to prison on remand by Magistrate Henry Sandy of Magistrate Court No.1A for fraudulent conversion. According to reports, the old man on diverse dates between June 2008 and June 20089 at Red Cross Store converted to his use a total of 679 five-gallon containers of palm oil valued at million of Leones belonging to one Sahr Aruna.  Matter was adjourned to Wednesday as the accused remain in remand.

 

Plan Sierra Leone trains 140 Youth in Bombali


At least 140 from 7 chiefdoms in the Bombali District have reportedly been trained by Plan- Sierra Leone on group organization, Management Network Techniques and Media/Communication in the Bombali District.  According to reports, the training was an advocacy project which aimed at discouraging gender discrimination and violence against girls and children.  The training was part of 3 years project titled Girls making media.
