In Sierra Leone, City Council spends Le 5m a week on Cotton Tree

The Mayor of Freetown, Herbert George Williams has on Tuesday 6th July disclosed to the press that City Council is spending Le 5m every week to maintain electricity supply and the fountain at the Cotton Tree.

He made this mention at the National Stadium Car Wash during a commissioning ceremony of a public toilet for the community people.  He also disclosed to journalists that FCC is spending three hundred million leones per month to clean the city.

He further said that all the development projects going on are the work of the tax money. He therefore entreated on Freetown residents to pay for there local tax so that they can see where their money is going.  People are going with the wrong idea that the tax money is going into my pocket, he said.  He however called to work with him as according to him he will change the face of the city to attract tourists if given the support.  Mayor Herbert-Williams also spoke of street trading which he said would soon minimize as City Council is putting mechanisms in place to clear them from all major streets in the city.   Council is about to train 300 metropolitan police to add to what we have who will be active in apprehending people that are not ready to comply with the bye laws.

Mayor Williams end up informing that on Saturday 31st July 2010 Sewa Ground Market will be commissioned.
