In a bid to educate members of the public through the media, the National Insurance Company (NIC) in collaboration with HFC Mortgage and Savings Limited over the weekend made presentations on insurance claims and policies and how to secure lives and properties to members of the Fourth Estate at HFC head office in Freetown.
Speaking at the ceremony, HFC Managing Director, Mr. Kofi Agnemin Boateng gave the background of the formation of his institution as a savings entity created by NASSIT to help resolve the countryís acute housing problems and to also pay claims to property owners following incidents of accidental damages, loss of income due to permanent incapacitation or death through hazards as well as covering policies to individuals whose properties are insured. He said it was but necessary for all house-owners to become a part of the insurance scheme as according to him, one cannot lose from either mortgaging his or her property in order to improve upon its market value or from directly insuring homes to protect against unforeseen negative incidents.
Managing Director for the Nation Insurance Company, Mr. Arthur Nathaniel Yaskey said the reason for the formal presentation at the educative ceremony was to show the general public that Insurance Policies were opportunities for the continued and constant protection of lives and properties. He said when disaster occurs, no life or property should be left in limbo but should be assured of security which he said they could achieve through insurance policies.
The ceremony was climaxed with the presentation of a Cheque for Le16,716,000 (Sixteen Million, Seven Hundred and Sixteen thousand leones) as payment of a claim to one Alhassan Sheka Kanu of 73, Siaka Stevens Street, whose mortgaged and insured house was recently partly destroyed by a fallen coconut tree.
