In Sierra Leone, NASSIT Makeni Meets With Regional Journalists

The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) have briefed journalists on their activities and development plans in the northern region. The first ever press orientation between NASSIT and the media organised by that institution took place on Friday 23rd July, 2010, attracting media practitioners from Kono, Kambia, Port Loko, Kabala and Mile 91.
The chairman of the one day workshop, Francis Lewis said the meeting was organised to help the press with information on their operations so as to be well equipped to educate the public appropriately about NaSSIT.
Makeni and Kono Regional Manager, Ishmyle Banja Kandeh disclosed that media training was part of the institutionís re-branding exercise as he put it Ďafter its image has been painted wrongly by certain enemies of progress in society.í He said NASSIT was one of the most successful government parastatals and therefore, hoped that the media training would improve on projecting its good activities to the public.
NASSITís Public Affair Manager, Osman Foday Koroma said the social security package of NASSIT has helped in rescuing the lives of several families, especially the aged under the retirement package, the invalidity benefit and contributorsí survivors in case of death.
He urged the media to help in convincing employers to register their employees to NASSIT to secure their future.
The Investment Officer for NASSIT, Wilborne Showers was able to highlight some of their investments during a very short term, and referred to the entity as a success citing the Kimbima Hotel, S.L. Brewery, Rokel Commercial Bank, Regimanuel Gray all in Fretown as companies where NASSIT holds shares. He informed of NASSITís current plans of constructing Low Cost Housing estates and shopping plazas in the regions to boost their revenue generation.
