The Minister of Information and Communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Ben Kargbo on Tuesday 27th July, 2010 called on play station operators in the country to desist from encouraging school boys and girls in their stations during school hours.
In a television talk show, Minister Kargbo lamented over the current sad state of affairs where school going children are seen at play stations when they are supposed to be in classes which he said does not augur well for the future of the nation. As future leaders he said government was concerned that our children do not indulge in vices that distract their attention from study.
He informed that government would soon put in place mechanisms to ensure that play station operators are tasked for allowing children and young school goers in their stations.
President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Mr. Umaru Fofanah said in as much as children must not be deprived of their right to play and other recreations, government should ensure that specific times were slated for play stations to allow them school boys and girls.
