In Sierra Leone, ACC Engages Stakeholders on Activities

Anti Corruption Commission officials on Wednesday engaged the civil society, the media and other stakeholders from various institutions in a sensitization meeting on the activities of the commission form the first quarter of this year at their No. 3 Gloucester Street office in Freetown.

 

In his presentation, Mr. Desmond R Johnson, Acting Director for Public Education and External Outreach Department informed that his departmentís duty is educates the public in the fight against corruption, and said it consists of two units; public education and external outreach units that target the various regions down to community level.


Mr. Reginald Fynn of the Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecutions Department disclosed to Journalists that the ACC can currently boast of only 25 investigators. He revealed that out of that total of investigators, 19 are intelligence officers, 5 senior intelligence officers and 1 chief investigator which he said makes their job very challenging. He informed that they have 2 legal officers who give support to the investigators. He disclosed that in the first half of the year, six convictions were made with five cases still pending in the High Court and four in the Appeals Court.
