In Sierra Leone, NRA Boss Speaks on Progress

The Acting Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Haja Kallah Kamara on Monday 2nd¬†August 2010 spoke on challenges and achievements of the commission.
Addressing members of the fourth estate at a commissioning ceremony of the newly renovated Customs Building at Cline Town in the east end of Freetown, Haja Kamara informed that in spite of the numerous challenges faced by the commission in itís strive to march with modernized tax policies in their bid to maximize revenue collection, some achievements have however been made. One of such achievements she said was establishment of the Domestic Tax Department within Customs and Excise Department. ďAfter the establishment of the Custom and Excise Department as a single agency some years ago, domestic revenue has increased from 7% to 12.45%,Ē she explained, adding that the introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the ASYCUDA++ system have in no small way also contributed to high revenue collection.
She commended DFID and other partners for their continued support to the commission.
