In spite negative press reports against the operations of the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) with regards certain investment initiatives like the dysfunctional ferry purchased by the scheme, NASSIT has not relented in demonstrating its poise in the undertaking of development initiatives. As they have proved beyond all reasonable doubt that they are to be trusted in the domain of infrastructural development with the record time completion of modern housing projects across in our major provincial cities, NASSIT has now taken another mile in tasking itself with the refurbishment of the Bintumani Conference Hall at Aberdeen in Freetown.

The historic event of handing over the contract of refurbishment to Sierra Construction Services (SCS) by NASSIT took place on Tuesday 3rd August, 2010 at the very dilapidated Bintumani Conference Hall.

During the handing over ceremony, the Chairman Board of Trustees of NASSIT Mr. Jacob S. Kanu expressed satisfaction over current infrastructural ventures by the management of the trust. He called on the contracting agent to ensure that they use their skills in bringing back Bintumani Conference Hall to life in conformity with international standards. We consider SCS to be best placed in handling the refurbishment contract based on the fact that they constructed the hall years ago, he informed, while expressing that when completed, the structure will be most suited for to meet required standards.

NASSIT Director General (DG), Mr. Sam Bangura Jr. recalled how some 30 years ago the Bintumani Conference Hall was one of the icons of West Africa, but said due to the decade long civil war that plagued every infrastructural facet of our society, Bintumani was effectively transformation into a base for ex-combatants, and later taken over by squatters who did away with the remaining facilities.  But we assure Sierra Leoneans that NASSIT will once again ensure that this same hall is ready to host important national and international conferences in the not too distant future, he impressed, while giving his word that the building will be completed and ready for use before the countrys 50th Independence Anniversary celebration next April. This is an indication that NASSIT is moving towards the right direction in liberating this country, he concluded.

Speaking on behalf of the contracting company, Mr. Manillous Gabba was bold enough to confess that the contract was going to be very challenging for them. This is going to be one of our most tasking projects considering the magnanimity of the hall which is about 8000 square meters, he informed, though he allayed the fears of all Sierra Leoneans that his company would work assiduously to meet the expectations of NASSIT and the government generally by completing the work in record time.

Bintumani Conference Hall was constructed in 1980 for the purpose of hosting the Organization of African Union (OAU) Conference in Sierra Leone.

In a related development, NASSIT took journalists on a conducted tour to their development and investment site within the Goderich community where the social scheme is presently constructing a state of the art sea view estates of forty-eight apartment buildings replete with recreational facilities.  The Goderich houses are expected to be put on mortgage by Home Finance Company (HFC) as soon as they get completed this year.
