A thirty-year-old man whose name was given as Sulaiman Swaray has allegedly raped a five-month-old baby (name withheld) in Kenema City, Eastern Sierra Leone.

The Director of Media and Public Relations in the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), Assistant Superintendent Ibrahim Samura disclosed this to the press during the usual Tuesdays weekly press briefing on 10th August 2010 at the Sierra Leone Police Headquarters in Freetown. ASP Samura told newsmen that the Kenema Police Division is currently investigating an alleged case of rape involving a 30 year-old man residing at Komende Street.

According to him, reports monitored from the Kenema Police Division revealed that over the weekend, Sulaiman went to visit his friend in his farm. On arrival, the alleged perpetrator did not meet his friend at the farm but was cordially received by his wife who left him with the 5 months old baby as she attended to chores. The little girl was seeping when the wife decided to prepare some food for the visitor.  She was however shocked upon return to meet her innocent baby seriously whipping with blood oozing from her private part.  ASP said according to information, the mother immediately rushed to the nearby farm where her husband was working and reported the incident to him.

Sulaiman Swaray has since been arrested. Though report says he denied penetrating into the little girl, he was however said to have confirmed to the police that he used his index finger to damage innocent baby. He is helping the police in their investigations while the victim is slowly responding to medical treatment.
