Mr. Elvis Gbanabom K. Hallowell has on Monday 23rd August 2010 been appointed by His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma as the new Director General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation (SLBC).
According to a Government Press Release issued on Monday 23rd August 2010, the general public is hereby informed that, pursuant to the provisions of Section 13 (1) of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) Act of 2010, and in keeping with the recommendations by the Board of Trustees of the said corporation, it has pleased His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma to appoint Mr. Elvis G.K. Hallowell to the post of Director General for the SLBC. The Government release further states that the appointment would be endorsed subject to the approval of Parliament.
When contacted by this press to sound his opinion on his new appointment, Mr. Elvis G.K. Hallowell expressed "a lot of joy" over the appointment but refused to further comment on it until according to him, he first gets approved by Parliament. However, he used the opportunity of his chat with this medium to publicly thank the SLBC Board of Trustees and H.E. President Koroma for their trust in him to head that important national public office.

Meanwhile, sources within UNIPSIL, UNDP and National Commission for Privatisation have intimated this presshouse that representatives from their institutions witnessed and observed the final session of the selection of Elvis Gbanabom Hallowell which they said met all International Best Practices. They said the performance of Hallowell, both written and oral, was highly impressive and clearly exceeded his rivals’ for the coveted position.
Also speaking to Awareness Times yesterday were several members of the SLBC Board of Trustees who further assured this press-house that the selection of Hallowell was done without fear or favour. SLBC Board members revealed that following the interviewing last Thursday 19th August 2010, they submitted the lucky Hallowell’s name to President Koroma on Friday 20th 2010 following which the President "acted speedily" to approve their decision yesterday Monday August 23rd, 2010.
SLBC Board members further reveal that interviewing for the position of Deputy Director-General will take place next tomorrow Thursday August 26th 2010 and will follow the same procedure as that for Elvis Hallowell and others. Out of dozens of applicants, the SLBC Board has shortlisted six but only four have decided to appear in front of the Board’s Panel.
