Fire Destroys  NRA House  at Border Point


Report from the Sierra Leone-Liberia-Border says, mysterious fire on Monday gutted down the residence of senior officers of the National Revenue Authority [NRA] at Gendema, Pujehun District Southern Sierra Leone. There was no report of death or injury but property worth millions of Leones were destroyed by the fire. The police are investigating the cause of the fire. It could be recalled that several houses were destroyed in Gendema and Bo Waterside recently by  delude of flood water due to the heavy down pour of rain in that area leaving hundreds of residents homeless. 

 

Gola Kinship Association Declares Ultimatum to Govt.


The Sierra Leone Gola Kinship Association on Monday issued a- two- week ultimatum on State House to look into the complaint against the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Zainab Hawa Bangura and the Sierra Leone Ambassador to the USA, Bockarie Stevens. The Vice President of the association, Osman Sesay, has reportedly informed that, it was nearly three months, since they formally complained the Minister and the Ambassador to the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma but is yet to take action. Mr. Sesay disclosed that their institution has been undermined by the duo reports say .

 

Thieves Rob Senior Lecturer


The Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law, Dr. Osman Gbla was reportedly robbed by thieves   last Friday afternoon along Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown.  According to report, the thieves stealthily damaged the lock of Dr. Gblas vehicle and catered away his laptop computer and other valuable documents. It was reportedly revealed that, the broad day light robbery will cause some set back for Dr. Gbla as valuable information relating to the effective operation of his faculty was stored in the said computer.

 

9 Charged for Unregistered SIM at  Lungi


Reports from the Port Loko Distict  town of Lungi say the National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM) in collaboration with the CID Cyber Crime Unit has arrested   9 peddlers who were found   selling unregistered sim cards to members of the public in that area.  The NATCOM team launched a- three day robust operation at Tagrin, Airport Ferry Road, ,Rotifunk, Tintafor and the Airport to discourage the sale of unregistered sim cards  to members of the general public. The operation which started on Friday 20th August ended on Sunday 22nd August 2010. The 9 arrested suspects have all been charged to court.

 

Energy Minister Signs MOU with Ghana


The Minister for Energy and Water Resources, Prof. Ogunlade Davidson is reported to have signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ghanaian Energy Department in Accra, Ghana over the weekend. The Minister reportedly disclosed that, the MOU will make it possible for the Ghanaian technical team to work and train Sierra Leone engineers and technicians to enable them operate Sierra Leone hydro and terminal plants. According to him more development will be enhanced from the MOU reports say.

 

Milla Group Donates to Landslide Victims


Following the recent mudslide disaster that occurred at Black Hall Road back of Benz Garage, an industrial limited company, Milla Group over the weekend donated some food items and money to relatives of victims of the disaster. The company took the bold step in order to share the plight of relatives of the victims and deceased since they all leave in the same community. Reports, say Milla Group has always fostered development in that area. 

SLIEPA Launches Newsletter


The Sierra Leone Investment and Export Promotion Agency (SLIEPA) has reportedly launched its maiden newsletter on the organization activities which geared towards export promotion. The Executive Director of SLIEPA, Patrick Caulker has reportedly revealed that his institution is a government agency responsible for the coordination, encouragement, promotion and generation of foreign and domestic investment. He reportedly maintained that, SLIEPA was now moving in high gear to enhance development and growth that will benefit the country. 

 

Boat Capsizes at Yeliboya

 

Reports have it that a boat on Monday evening 23rd of  August  2010, capsized  between  Yeliboya and  Freetown. The Office of National Security and the Sierra Leone Navy have reportedly dispatched a rescue and search team to the  scene  of  the  accident. No casualty report at the moment reports say.
