Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Complains Over Northernisation

The main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) is continuing to lament what they see as continuation of a Northern Agenda in the operation of the country. SLPP Leader John Benjamin is complaining that the SLBC Board seems to be repeating the ‘Northernisation’ agenda of President Koroma by first recommending as Director-General, a man who grew up in Bombali, up North and then appointing an indigene of Koinadugu, up North as Deputy Director-General. According to John Benjamin, he had “nothing personal” against Sana Samura whom he said “might be fully qualified”.  He however asked “why should appointments now in this country come only from the North, the North, the North?”

“The four recent appointments by President Koroma have all been from the North. The Anti Corruption Commissioner, the Police Chief, the Army Chief and the Independent Broadcaster’s Director are all from the North and now the Deputy Director-General of SLBC is also from the North. We are concerned especially as virtually 90% of the Cabinet are Northerners or Northern-linked already,” JOB lamented.
