Aug 31, 2010, 17:26

Mr. John Oponjo Benjamin, National Leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, has yesterday commended sitting parliamentarian, Hon. Elizabeth Alpha-Lavalie for the position she publicly took against the woman slated to conduct the 2012 Elections, Dr. Christiana Thorpe.

Benjamin said as National Leader, it was gratifying to him that a party member could so eloquently put the precise position of the party across.

“What made me very much impressed was how Hon. Elizabeth Lavali displayed understanding of the legal issues around this burning national mess,” Benjamin applauded.

Asked if this could be taken as an endorsement of the Presidential bid of Elizabeth Lavalie over other contenders, the SLPP Leader chuckled as he responded, “Every aspirant now knows I am fiercely determined to provide a very level playing field for all of them including Elizabeth. I am not endorsing anyone. Whoever emerges out of the upcoming contest will get my 100% support but only at that time when he or she gets to be chosen as flagbearer”.

John Benjamin used the occasion to also deride those pundits claiming an alliance between himself & aspirants like Momodu Koroma or Maada Bio.

Meanwhile, indications are 18 aspirants including Elizabeth Lavalie have now each paid the sum of Le10million as at close of Banking yesterday. They include Kadi Sesay, Alpha Timbo, Momodu Koroma, Alpha Wurie, A. Keili, Osman Boie Kamara, P.C. Somanoh Kapen III, Richard Mbayo, Joe Moiba, Emmanuel Grant, Obai Kabia, Maada Bio, Ishmail Koroma, and four others including persons from the Diaspora, Abu Hassan Koroma(Askia) and Umaru Dumbuya. The total paid is Le180,000,000 (One Hundred and Eighty Million Leones) so far in the Special Bank Account.
