30 Sierra Leone, 9 Liberian Army Cadet Recruits Commissioned.

In keeping with the Strenthening of diplomatic ties and sustaining bi-lateral relationships, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma on Friday 3rd September 2010 commissioned 39 combined recruits of Sierra Leonean and Liberian army cadet officers at the Armed Forces Training Centre, Benguema outside Freetown.  The officers comprising of 8 men and 1 female from Liberia joined 28 Men and 2 females of the RSLAF entered for a one-year cadet training at Benguema on the 9th July, 2009. In his State Address at the colorful ceremony, President Koroma expressed delight to officiate another passing out parade since he resumed office in 2007. He described the event as remarkable considering the historical and cultural aspects which bind the two countries together.  He said the RSLAF has proved to be a cornerstone not only to Sierra Leone but the Africa Continent at large, citing instance of our army personnel taking part in the African Contingent Assisting the drive to ensure stability within the region.


He urged the new recruits from both countries to respect and uphold their values in consonance with the protection of their constitutions. I hope to see you live up to your expectations in order to build our security apparatus and to also protect the achievement of our people, he implored.  He also assured the RSLAF that his government is presently working to come up with an accurate and complementary arrangement to alleviate the accommodation problems in the force.


Dr. Koroma also spoke of a new system that would cater for efficient resource management in the various army departments including plans to create an agricultural unit in the RSLAF that would not only transform the army but also give them the opportunity to immensely contribute to the socio-economic development of the country

In an interview conducted by this  medium with the Liberian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Ambassador Thomas Brimah, he noted that Sierra Leone and Liberia have great similarities in tribes, customs and religions.  He furthered that recently the Sierra Leone Mayor was in Liberia all in a bid to foster good relationship. He expressed hope that the newly commissioned cadet officers would ensure the security of their states.
