In Sierra Leone, Zain Donates Fasting Items to Muslims

One of Sierra Leone’s leading telecommunication companies, Zain on Friday 3rd September 2010 dished out a large consignment of assorted food and non-food items to Muslims in many parts of the country, notably in mosques in Freetown, Bo, Makeni and Kenema. The donated items included prayer mats, veils and hats, copies of the Holy Quran, bags of imported rice and condiments including vegetable oil. The gesture was aimed at motivating Muslims to hold steadfast in fasting during Holy Month.


Speaking at the handing over ceremony in Freetown, Zain (SL) commercial director Kenith Tukei said he was very proud and delighted to identify himself with the Muslim community in the country, while maintaining hat the company is always ready to patronize with them especially in a the month of Ramadan.


“This donation is for Muslims to efficiently prepare for the last ten days of the Ramadan known as the (LAILATU GADRI),” he said.


June Rose Johnson of Corporate Affairs Department said they hope to make many more gestures in due course. She implored them to accept the small token in good faith and use the items efficiently.


Several Sheiks including Imam Ramadan Bah of the Freetown CentralMosque expressed their thanks and appreciation to Zain (SL) for what they described as a timely gesture while assuring of the intended use of the donated items for the sake of Islam.
