In Sierra Leone, African Minerals Sends 17 People to Ghana on Training

The African Minerals on Thursday 9th September 2010 proudly sponsored the training of 17 Sierra Leoneans in Ghana.  This move is in line with the companys poise to capacitate its local staff.


Speaking to our reporter at their Ferengbeya Site in Tonkolili before departure of the trainees, the Logistics Manager Mr. Musa Bangura revealed that those opportune to travel to Ghana would see for themselves not only how mining companies operate in that country but how they relate with the communities in which they operate.  He said it was just a tip of the iceberg as according to him, more of such training sessions were in the pipeline for their staff.  He entreated the beneficiaries to focus on the exercise to put the country on the map.  

The Personal Assistant to the General Manager who led the 17 man delegation, Mr. Alieu Kamara said capacity building training was to empower local staffs to get the rudiments of mineral exploitation and the skills and ability to work more efficiently in that industry. 


The 17-man delegation was not only drawn from the various units of the company but also included one community Head Teacher, 3 youth leaders and 2 Journalist, he informed.  He expressed his gratitude to African Minerals for giving them such opportunity, as he assured of their dedication to the training with the promise to work hard to translate their knowledge to the operations of the company. He on that note implored his colleague beneficiaries to take the training seriously.

The youth representative, Tamba M. Koroma also commended African Minerals for what he referred to as a timely and marvelous initiative. He said he would use the experience gained from the training to educate other youths for the betterment of the community.
