In Sierra Leone, COMAHS Workers Make 3rd Appearance for Swindling Le 50M

The matter involving five people who allegedly conspired to defraud the College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences (COHMAS) yesterday made their appearance in Court No.2 presided over by Magistrate Wellington.

The five accused persons, Dr. Bailah Leigh, the collegeís medical officer; Eugene Leon Palmer, college accountant; Madam Martha Agatha Momoh and Mr. Emmanuel Julius Momoh both of them accountants attached to the Education Ministry and Mr. David Gibao Kapata an employee of the ministry are standing trial on two count charges of conspiracy to defraud and forgery.

According to the particulars of offence, all five accused persons on diverse dates this year connived to defraud the institution the sum of Le50m (Fifty Million Leones), a matter that was brought before the court on the 9th September 2010.

Tendering his evidence before the court, the police prosecuting witness, Taiyo Kamara attached to the Criminal Investigation Department in Freetown said the money swindled by the accused was in the tune of Le 50 million.

The defence team of five lawyers is being headed by Lawyer Crispin Feo Edwards. The matter was adjourned to the 24th September 2010 for further hearing. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Oladipo Robin Mason is prosecuting the matter on behalf of the state.
