Consumer Price Index Shoots to 5.1%

 

Market commentators have alarmed that Consumer Price Index (CIP) has increased to 5.1%. Local tabloid reports say this is bound to cause serious economic problem if appropriate measures are not put in place.

 

Police Mob Editor

 

The Editor of Concord Times Newspaper Moses A. Kargbo was on Sunday 31st October this year physically manhandled at his 19A City Road, Kissy Mess Mess residence in Freetown media reports say. This is said to have been seriously condemned in no uncertain terms by the management of Concord Times Communications, colleague journalists and other human right activists.

 

Rampant Robbery at Water Quay

Thousand of Sierra Leonean importers living in the Diaspora have bitterly complained about rampant pilfering and vandalizing of their goods especially vehicles at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay in Freetown. Reports are abound that if this situation is not reverted the aggrieved importers would rather use neighbouring Liberia and Guinea harbours instead of Sierra Leone’s.

India Awards Scholarships

Three Sierra Leoneans reportedly have benefited from Indian scholarships under the Special Commonwealth Assistant for African Programme (ACAAP). The awardees Alpha Mohamed Bangura, Kadiatu Koroma, and Yirrah Mansaray will be studying computer hardware,  communication networking skills and entrepreneurship management respectively. They are expected to depart the shores of Sierra Leone today Friday 5th November 2010 on board Kenya airways.

NRA’S Domestic Tax Department Gets New Head

The Board of Directors of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) is reported to have appointed Ibrahim Sorie Kamara as Commissioner of the newly instituted Domestic Taxes Department. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Kamara was acting commissioner for Income Tax after lecturing at the University of Sierra Leone, working for KPMG and National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).


APC Urged to Respect Democracy

 

Political commentators have stated that hundred of Port Loko descendants past Monday 1st November 2010 converged at Victoria Park in Freetown to warn the ruling All People’s Congress Government to respect democratic tenets. According to reports the protesters are embittered over the undue delay and protracted nature of that regions disputed paramount chieftaincy elections.


FCC Neglecting the Dead


As cemeteries around the Freetown municipality remain engulfed by bushes reports are abound that the Freetown City Council (FCC) is fast neglecting the dead.  Apart from turning graveyards into criminal hide outs this situation makes it difficult for the digging of and identification of  graves.


Passengers Indict Government for Being Insensitive

A local tabloid says irate passengers plying in provincial towns have accused the Ministry of Transportation and Trade of not being sensitive to their plight. It is said that they are annoyed with the government fort sporadic hike in fare

Diamond Magnate Burgled

 

Mr. Tawusu Mansaray a diamond magnate, who resides in Freetown is reported to have been burgled, police reports state. The victim is said to have been allegedly deprived by one Abdulia Ishmail Mansaray, a ward he adopted on the basis of sympathy after the suspect’s uncle one Mr. Alhassan Terete could not return from a business trip to Europe.
