In Sierra Leone, Murder Suspects at Court No.1

Suliaman Conteh, Lansana Kamara and Mohamed Bamba, all of Freetown, appeared before Magistrate Steven Conteh of Court No.1 on Wednesday 17th November 2010, on allegations of murder and conspiracy to commit felony, and are expected to make another appearance in court this morning.

Testifying in court, PC 9785 Abu Julius Kamara, attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) branch at the Eastend Police Division said he was on duty on the 3rd November 2010 when Lansana Kamara and one Idrissa Koroma arrived at the police station with wounds all over their bodies. The wounds, he continued, were sustained from an assault over mobile phone disagreement.


He said both were issued medical forms for hospital attention.

According to him, it was later reported at the station that Idrissa Koroma has died. Upon that, I went to the Mortuary of the Connaught Hospital were I confirmed the report, he explained.

He said the body was identified and a postmortem test was conducted on the deceased.

The suspects were later raided and arrested with the help of relatives of the deceased.


The three suspects are believed to have stabbed the deceased.

Following the testimony, presiding Magistrate Steven Conteh asked the accused persons if they had questions for the police officer.

They responded in the negative and they were not represented by a single lawyer.


The three murder suspects were not granted bail as the magistrate orders their detention at the Pademba Road prision.

The matter comers up today.
