Government Concedes to Awareness Times but
By Our Crack Investigative Team
Dec 3, 2010, 17:02

It is an unfortunate situation. His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, the Fountain of Honour, is caught in the middle of the biggest Presidential Embarrassment in the History of Sierra Leone.

Awareness Times investigators have exposed how, for the very first time in the History of Sierra Leone, we have a Head of State who goes on to personally sign a Preface to a book that contains SEVERAL OUTRIGHT LIES but which H.E. unfortunately states in his Preface, alongside his Presidential looking Photograph, as containing, in his words, “positive transformations we have engendered in the country since our assumption of office three years ago”. (See below)

The Koroma Government, in a bid to mitigate the embarrassment, has, through the IRCBP, issued a Press Statement (see below) but unfortunately, the Government has forgotten to apologise to the people of Sierra Leone for the gross misinformation in the Presidential Book. Also, the Government, whilst conceding that they misled the world, has forgotten to thank the team at Awareness Times for drawing attention to the OUTRIGHT LIES in the Presidential Publication which has led to the ‘review of the database’.

Here at Awareness Times, we hope someone will quickly correct those two missing aspects of that IRCBP Government Statement; ...and sooner rather than later! If indeed, the OUTRIGHT LIES were not deliberately inserted in the Presidential Book to fool the world but were genuine mistakes caused by President Koroma personally endorsing/signing a document he had not read, then we surely should have the citizens/public getting an apology over the Presidential errors and we should also get a big thank-you from the Government to the noble investigative team at Awareness Times for being the ones in the first place who uncovered the ‘database errors’ overlooked by the Presidency.

Awareness Times deserves to be thanked by the Government for uncovering the ‘error’ that has now caused the Government to ‘review their database’ and might also probably caused them to hurriedly rehabilitate two Staff Quarters in Pujehun.

A refusal to issue an apology to the Public & Voting Sierra Leone citizens for the ‘errors’ as published and/or a refusal to thank Awareness Times will not be taken in good faith by the team of dedicated, crack investigators at this newspaper.

The Good Government of H.E. Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has been well advised.

PRESS RELEASE
CLARIFICATION ON STATUS OF PROJECTS IN THE TURN-AROUND BOOKLET

THE ATTENTION OF THE INSTITUTIONAL REFORM AND CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT (IRCBP) HAS BEEN DRAWN TO A SERIES OF PUBLICATIONS BY “AWARENESS TIMES” NEWSPAPER QUESTIONING THE VERACITY OF THE STATUS OF PROJECTS LISTED IN THE DOCUMENT TITLED: “SIERRA LEONE: THE TURN-AROUND - THREE YEARS OF TRANSFORMATIVE ACHIEVEMENTS”. THIS DOCUMENT WAS PRODUCED TO COMMEMORATE THE THIRD ANNIVERSARY OF PRESIDENT ERNEST BAI KOROMA’S TENURE OF OFFICE.

THE INTENTION OF THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE IRCBP TO THE PUBLICATION WAS TO INFORM THE GENERAL PUBLIC ABOUT LOCAL GOVERNMENT DEVELOPMENT GRANT (LGDG) PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN SO FAR BY LOCAL COUNCILS. THE IRCBP’S INPUT COVERED COMPLETED PROJECTS, AS WELL AS OTHERS AT VARIOUS STAGES OF IMPLEMENTATION.

PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED WITH THIS GRANT UNDERGO THREE BROAD STAGES, NAMELY, FORMULATION, COMMENCEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION, INVOLVING CLOSE COOPERATION AND COLLABORATION BETWEEN LOCAL COUNCILS, BENEFICIARY COMMUNITIES AND THE IRCBP.

THE PROPOSED PROJECTS QUERIED IN THE AWARENESS TIMES PUBLICATIONS ARE IN FACT THOSE ALREADY IDENTIFIED BY THE BENEFICIARY COMMUNITIES, ENDORSED AND SUBMITTED BY THE LOCAL COUNCILS AND APPROVED BY THE IRCBP FOR IMPLEMENTATION. ONE OF THESE PROJECTS, NAMELY, THE REHABILITATION OF TWO SENIOR

STAFF QUARTERS, EQUIPPED WITH HOUSEHOLD UTENSILS HAS BEEN COMPLETED AT PUJEHUN TOWN, WHILE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE OTHERS IS COMMENCING.

AT THE SAME TIME, THE ATTENTION OF THE PUBLIC IS DRAWN TO THE FACT THAT A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF THE PROJECT DATABASE ALSO REVEALED THAT 16 COMPLETED PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE TURN-AROUND PUBLICATION.

THE IRCBP’S OBJECTIVE FOR PROVIDING THE INFORMATION WAS TO ENSURE TRANSPARENCY OF ITS MASSIVE NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME AND HEREBY APPEALS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO SEEK CLARIFICATION FROM LOCAL COUNCILS AND THE IRCBP ON ANY ASPECT OF THEIR ACTIVITIES.

THE IRCBP REMAINS COMMITTED TO CONTINUE ITS GOOD WORK OF ENHANCING SERVICE DELIVERY TO THE PEOPLE, THROUGH TRANSPARENT AND ACCOUNTABLE PROCESSES AND THEREFORE KEEPS ITS DOORS OPEN TO ANSWER QUEIRES AND CLARIFICATIONS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

A Presidential Preface to “Sierra Leone: The Turn Around: Three Years of Transformative Achievements by The Ernest Koroma Government”,

Preface

On assumption of office in September 2007, I promised a progressive turn around for Sierra Leone in three years. I articulated my vision and firmed up the people's aspirations for this turnaround in 'An Agenda for Change.'

The Agenda for Change prioritizes four key areas: enhancing national electricity, developing the national transportation network, enhancing productivity in agriculture and fisheries, and sustaining human development - health and education. September 17, 2010 is the third anniversary of my assumption of office.

As an accountable, democratic and transparent administration, my Government is in this document reporting on the positive transformations we have engendered in the country since our assumption of office three years ago.

My Government is not only about intentions, it is about actions - because it is at the level of actions and implementation that we create positive impact for the people of this land that we love.

We stated our intentions in the Agenda for Change, and our focus is now on successful implementation. From agriculture to roads, energy, health, education, investment, mineral resources, decentralization, job creation and other sectors, transformative action is now visible all over the country.

His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma
President
