The First lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma on Sunday 11th December 2010 commissioned a newly constructed police post within the Koya Community, Wellington in the east end of Freetown. The ceremony attracted Members of Parliament, cabinet ministers and community stakeholders. The event was a sequel to a special thanks giving service to mark the 50th Anniversary celebration of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party held at the National Pentecostal Church at Palmer Street in Wellington on the theme Look forward to a better home in Heaven.

Speaking at the ceremony, the First Lady informed that the security of any nation depends on the community people who always give tips to the authorities concerned, adding that it was important for the public to closely work with the security forces in order to ensure peace and security. She commended the Member of Parliament (MP) for that constituency, Hon. Victoria Saidu Kamara for taking the bold step to construct a police post in her constituency.

In her short statement, Hon. Saidu-Kamara informed her audience that she singularly undertook the funding of the project.  I took the onus to undertake the construction of this post out of love and care for this community since the occurrence of an ugly armed robbery incident that left a young man, Yirra Marrah butchered by the thieves, she said, adding that now that a police post has been constructed for that community, the people are assured of safe living and the protection of properties. I did the construction with my own bona fide cash, and I am proud to dedicate it to Yirrah Marrah, the victim of that armed robbery, she noted, while she promised the community of a health centre, good roads and safe drinking water.

The Community Chairman, Abdul Razark Conteh, in his statement said the construction of the police post was the first development brought by the APC led government since they came into office. He thanked the MP for such a humanitarian venture. He however, begged of her to fulfill the promise made to provide the Koya Community with especially safe drinking water.

The ceremony was climaxed by live musical performance by some of our local artists.
