In Sierra Leone, One Killed in Gun Attack

Unidentified gunmen have killed a female resident of College Road, Congo Cross in Freetown. Yealie Kargbo was shot dead following a deadly attack launched at her residence in the early hours of Friday 17th December 2010. Sinneh, the husband of Yealie also received a bullet wound and doctors at the Connaught Hospital are still fighting to save his life.
The corpse of Yealie, which were left in a pool of blood, was later convened to the Mortuary.
The Congo Cross Police Division has arrested a suspect known as White Boy who was reportedly nabbed with a knife and traces of blood stain on his body.
Eyewitness accounts say the gunmen were screaming out the name of the Chairman of Sweizzy Jewelers, Emmanuel Kamara aka Obaro, as if he was their prime target.
One Alpha Kargbo explained that the gunmen ordered residents to go inside and close their doors on grounds that they were there to kill Abaro.
“The attack lasted for about fifteen minutes and two gun shots were fired,” Kargbo said, adding that the gunmen break into the residence of the deceased and do away with properties worth millions of Leones.
The school bags of the victims’ children, which were stolen during the attack, were later discovered at a veranda at Congo Town ‘Harbour’ Wharf.
As at time of going to press, the police were yet to ascertain the rationale behind the attack but several people believe that the gunmen were not robbers but assassins.
