Amidst allegations of importation of illegal APC voters into Tassoh Island, SLPP Flagbearer Aspirant Usman Boie-Kamara, led a high powered delegation to Tassoh Island on Tuesday 17th May 2011 to formally present SLPP Candidate for the Constituency 97 parliamentary bye-election slated for May 28 2011.

SLPPs Komba Mijiwas presentation witnessed glamorous and spectacular welcome as residents turned out in their numbers to welcome the delegation led by Boie-Kamara to the island situated some twenty miles from Freetown.

In his statement that was severally interrupted by thunderous applauds, Usman Boie-Kamara described the failure of the people in 2007 to elect SLPP MP for the seat now being contested as a major mistake. The mistake is evident in the hardship, corruption and total neglect for the needs of the people that is being exhibited by the APC led government, Boie-Kamara said, noting that things continue to deteriorate from bad to worse since 2007.

The SLPP strongman spoke of the need for the people to wake up from their slumber and choose the right leaders, while citing SLPPs Mijiwa as a perfect example of a good leader.

He called on the people to speak of their disgruntlement against the APC through the ballot box, as according to him, gone are the days for politicians to treat their people with utmost contempt.

Boie-Kamara described Mijiwa as development-oriented, while assuring the people of Tassoh that the SLPP candidate will always live up to expectations. According to Boie-Kamara, Mijiwas name is synonymous with development, generosity and friendliness.

Earlier, Chairman of the ceremony, Mr. Amidu Kargbo, who happens to be a new member of the SLPP (one month and five days as at time of the programme), admonished Tassoh residents to forget about tribe and party colour and vote for the right person. According to the chairman, he was a strong APC member, but noted that the failure of the APC to change the lives of the suffering masses prompted his decision to pitch tent with the SLPP.

SLPPs Komba Mijiwa, in his statement, thanked Boie-Kamara for formally presenting him to his people, while describing Boie-Kamara as a politician that always associate himself with his people, especially the grassroot. He promised to take development to Tassoh if given the chance to serve the people as their MP.

The locals, in their statements, lament the current deplorable conditions in Tassoh, as according to them, the former MP totally neglected them.
