Journalist and Politician Ibrahim El-Tayyib Bah passed away on Saturday 18th June 2011 at the Choithram Hospital in Freetown. He was 50 years old.

Tayyib, who was President of Sierra Leone Association of Journalists from 2000 – 2004, reportedly died of kidney failure. He was buried yesterday Sunday 19 June in Freetown.

“Tayyib dedicated most of his life and energy to journalism and to SLAJ,” said Umaru Fofana, current SLAJ President, adding “even in ill health, he attended the recent Biennial Conference of the association in Kenema, which was a clear manifestation of his commitment to the association and the trade”.

Tayyib Bah was also a politician who once served as elected Publicity Secretary of opposition SLPP(Sierra Leone People’s Party; a position he resigned last year.

Tayyib’s protracted terminal illness, spanning a period of some two years, had seen him receive moral and financial support from both a cash-flowing APC party as well as from the very cash-strapped opposition SLPP throughout his illness until his death.

May his soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.
