The main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) has warned the Chairman and Leader of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) Mr. Mohamed Bangura to stop passing judgement on a case already in court otherwise he would be held for contempt of court.

In an exclusive interview on  Wednesday October 12, 2011 with the National Secretary General of the SLPP Mr. Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie at the SLPP Headquarters at Lightfoot Boston Street in Freetown, he said that once a case is in court, no one has the right to either talk about it or pass judgement. It is prejudicial to do so and as a result such an individual will face contempt of court charges, lawyer Banja Tejan-Sie noted.

When asked why he is defending the SLPP MP Foday Rado Yokie and others regarding the Bo violence, Mr. Banja Tejan-Sie said he decided to defend the 14 alleged perpetrators because he is a lawyer and was trained to defend people regardless of what crimes they commit. He noted that politics is a hobby and that he sees no harm in defending them.

Lawyer Banja Tejan-Sie said he is not only defending SLPP members, he is also defending APC members as well. He said there are nine SLPP and five APC supporters his team is defending. So my representation is not political. As a trained lawyer, it is my duty to help the court get to the truth and that is what we are doing, he stressed.

He said everyman is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, adding that every man has the right to be heard and that is what they are doing by presenting their cases to the court.  He noted that he believes in justice and non violence.

On the formation of the UDM party, the SLPP scribe said there is no need for such a party to exist because a political party is formed to primarily contest elections, and to tell the people about the ills of a ruling government. But the UDM is a direct opposite of all these.

The UDM has no ambition to contest and win the presidential seat, Mr. Banja Tejan-Sie ridiculed.

He stated that the UDM leader is not talking about the wrong doings of the ruling government and noted that all he is doing is to propagate the ideas of the APC against other well meaning opposition parties.  So it leaves Sierra Leoneans with no option but to believe that the UDM is APC in disguise, Lawyer Banja Tejan-Sie blasted.

When asked whether SLPP officials have paid a visit to Pademba Road Prisons to see Honourable Rado Yokie and others in jail, he said he hasnt gone there and could not confirm whether others had paid them a visit.

Lawyer Banja Tejan-Sie buttressed the fact he and his Defence team will continue to defend the alleged perpetrators until the court get to the bottom of the truth.
