November 1998- Awarded the Grand Order of Bravery by the Libyan Leader Colonel Muarnrnar Gadaffi.

December 1998- Awarded The Islamic Worldwide "Grand Prix" by The Cheikhna Cheikh Saad Bouh Foundation of Dakar, Senegal.

February 1999- Awarded the Doctor of Civil Laws Degree(DCL) from St. Mary’s University Halifax, Canada.

March 1999 - Appointed Chancellor of the University of The Gambia by virture of University of The Gambia Act 1999

December 2003- Bestowed Major Donor Recognition ­Second Level By Rotary Foundation International.

December 2003- Awarded Honorary Certificate of Distinction by the Institute of Professional Administration and Management (IPAM) for taking a

lead role in the promotion of Peace in West Mrica and for accepting and protecting Sierra Leonean Refugees in The Gambia.

Laws (LLD Honoris Causa) by the University of The Gambia.

October 2004- Awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Australian - Asian Institute of Civil Leadership in recognition of his outstanding achievements and illustrious standing in Leadership.

President Yahya Jammeh has been listed in several biographical publications notably International Who’s Who and The Marquis Who’s Who.


Almost single handedly President Jammeh has provided strong institutional support as a means of motivation and incentive to the less privileged and disadvantaged sections of the Community and the Country at large.

President Jammeh is credited with the setting up of several philanthropic schemes such as:

- The Jammeh Foundation for Peace

- The President’s Empowerment of Girls Education Project President Jammeh Award for Excellence in Education

- The Health for Peace Initiative in the West African Sub-region

- Dr. Yahya Jammeh CILSS Forest Park competition
