Sierra Leone Roads Transport Corporation (SLRTC) Commissions New Bus Terminal in Bo

The Sierra Leone Roads Transport Corporation (SLRTC) has on Saturday 25th August 2012, officially commissioned a new Mini Bus Terminal at New London, Bo City in the Southern Region of Sierra Leone.


The ceremony attracted a good number of residents and non-residents of Bo City, including Ministers, Members of Parliament, Chiefs, Traders, youth and womenís groups, among others, within and without the city of Bo.

 

Addressing the audience at the ceremony, the Minister of Transport and Aviation, Mr. Vandi C. Minah encouraged the people of Bo to continue being patriotic.

He further called on them not to politicize development, but to commend every effort made by the Government of the day and other stakeholders towards national development.

 

He also called on the residents to manage the terminal properly and further ensure it is used for its intended purposes.

 

Director of SLRTC, Mr. Alie Katisco Sesay said one of the key responsibilities of any government is to provide transport facilities for its citizens.

 

He noted that the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) government has so far made tremendous strides towards the development of the transport sector, whilst noting that many innovative ideas designed by the SLRTC have yielded positive dividends.

Mr. Sesay maintained that one of the priorities of President Ernest Bai Koromaís government is to ensure that SLRTC decentralizes transport management across the country.

 

This according to him is to ensure that Sierra Leoneans have easy access to the facility.

 

The SLRTC Director affirmed that since the coming into governance of the President Koroma led government, the difficulties that used to plague the transport sector have been addressed.

For his part, the Chairman Board of Directors of the SLRTC, Mrs. Rebecca Conteh said that the construction and commissioning of the Mini Bus Terminal is one of the fulfillments of President Koromaís ĎAgenda for Prosperityí.

 

She noted that since President Koroma assumed governance some four years ago, he has created for himself and the people of Sierra Leone many legacies, of which the new Mini Bus Terminal in Bo is one of such legacies.

 

Mrs. Conteh went on that the current government has no intension to expose the people of Sierra Leone to untold suffering. She said it is for this reason that it has ensured that Sierra Leoneans have access to the various means of transportations to facilitate their movements.

 

The Board Chairman maintained that the new bus terminal will make passengers convenient whilst waiting to board a bus. Mrs. Rebecca Conteh used the forum to further commend the efforts of SLRTCís management and staff, Rokel Commercial Bank and other stakeholders for their invaluable contributions in making the bus terminal project a success.

On behalf of the Bo City Mayor, the Chief Administrator (CA) of the Bo City Council, Mr. William Alpha acknowledged that, the SLRTC has decentralized its transport sector facilities in most parts of the country.


He lauded the Minister of Transport and Aviation and the SLRTC Board, Management and Staff for undertaking laudable improvements in the transport sector to match up to international standards.

 

Mr. Alpha revealed that challenges earlier on encountered by people in traveling from one point to another, have now been addressed. He took the opportunity to appeal to the SLRTC to make available more school buses to commute students to and from their various schools.


This according to the CA will reduce studentsí involvement in motorbike (Okada) accidents in Bo city.

Rokel Commercial Bankís representative, Mr. Arthur Thomas Hedd, noted that his institution has always extended moral and financial supports to developmental projects undertaken by the government.
He further acknowledged that Rokel Commercial Bank (SL) Limited has confidence in the SLRTC and that was why they were inspired to support the construction of the bus terminal.


He used the occasion to appeal to all Sierra Leoneans to do business with Rokel Commercial Bank, whilst also reassuring the bankís continued support to developmental projects across the country.
