For many years, Northern Province of Sierra Leone has carried the stigma of being negative to women in leadership positions. For example, only women from the South East can be elected to lead chiefdoms as Paramount Chiefs.

Advent of APC leader to presidency saw him appoint Umu-Hawa Tejan-Jalloh as Chief Justice, making her first woman to hold such a position in Sierra Leone. She is a Northern lady which appointment helped to smash stigma about women of the North and inspired so many young girls nationwide.

Few months ago, in the face of tremendous resistance from few males of Makeni, APC leader Ernest Koroma, submitted the name of Madam Sunkarie Kabba-Kamara to be his APC partys mayoral candidate for only municipal council in Northern Province, the Makeni City Council.
