SLPP & APC Praise President over Foh

Members of Parliament representing the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party and the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party in parliament on Thursday 25th April 2013 showered praises on His Excellency President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma for appointing Mr. Victor Bockarie Foh as Sierra Leoneís Ambassador Extraordinary to the Peoples Republic of China.


This was during the approval of a set of presidential appointees, including former National Secretary-General of the APC party, Mr. Victor Bockarie Foh, Hon. Ibrahim Sorie as Ambassador Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Belgium and Mrs. Doris Saffa Nyangbe Sannoh Ngaliwah as Member of Police Council, recently appointed by President Koroma.

 

Presenting the nominees to the House, the Leader of Parliament, Hon. Sheku B.B. Dumbuya who also doubles as Chairman of the Appointment and Public Service Committee in Parliament said, on 19th April 2013, all the nominees successfully went through set criteria in an interview conducted for them.

 

He said the name, Victor Bockarie Foh, is a household name in Sierra Leone, adding that the personality has served the country as a civil servant, Parliamentarian and Secretary-General representing the All Peoples Congress party. Hon. Dumbuya went on that Mr. Foh is a deeply committed, dedicated and enviable personality in the political landscape of Sierra Leone.

 

He said during his interview with the committee, Mr. Foh said, ďI am the Secretary-General of the APC but I have friends and relatives across the isle. When I was a Parliamentarian in this House, we did not only work but also have lots of fun. I am happy to learn that such inter-party relationships still exist among current ParliamentariansĒ.


Hon. Dumbuya also revealed that it was Sierra Leone, through its one time Foreign Minister Mr. S.A.J. Pratt, who in 1971 at the United Nations, had helped to ensured China took its rightful place as a member of the UN Security Council creating a strong bond between the two countries that can never be forgotten. He informed that Mr. Foh has promised to properly cement that already existing bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and China.

 

Furthering, the honourable described Hon. Ibrahim Sorie as one of the long serving members in the Sierra Leone Parliament, who has served in that capacity for over 30 years now. He said during this period, the honourable has judiciously served in several capacities and that to date, people are still benefiting from most of what he initiated then.

 

On the side of Madam Ngaliwah, Hon. Dumbuya revealed that she served in several capacities in public offices in the country and has been a civil society activist in the Network Movement for Justice and Development (NMJD).

 

Hon. Rado Yokie of the main opposition Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) described the nominations of the three personalities as one of the best nominations ever brought before them.

 

 House of Parliament. He referred to the female nominee as a woman with wealth of experience in the civil society sector, whilst pleading on her to ensure she deliver well in her new appointment.

 

Hon. Yokie expressed admiration for Mr. Victor Foh for haven being a very constant and committed member of the APC for years now, especially when he is one of the very few APC members to have come from an SLPP stronghold.

 

Hon. P.C. Kailondo Bangura from Kailahun district commended Mr. Foh and Hon. Sorie for having played exemplary roles in the political landscape of Sierra Leone.

 

Hon. Dr. Bernadette Lahai, Minority Leader of the SLPP in parliament described Mr. Foh as a politician that believes in what he belongs to, whilst also calling on other politicians to emulate his steps.

 

Chief Whip of Parliament, Hon. Claude Kamanda, described the day as special. He said as a member of the APC party, he is aware of the befitting contributions made by Victor Foh during his tenure as National Secretary-General of the party, adding that he would be missed at the secretariat by all comrades in the APC party. Hon. Kamanda further revealed that it was Comrade Foh who first assured President Koroma and the APC government of their successes in both the 2007 and 2012 general elections. He described Hon. Sorie as a mentor in parliament, whilst commending President Koroma for making a very wise decision to nominate a woman as Police Council member.
