Quotable Quote: Koroma on Ebola Restrictions
May 5, 2015, 17:08

Speaking in local Krio language at the ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) party’s national conference on Thursday April 30th 2015, President Koroma said, as translated: “We are not going to lift the Emergency restrictions. The last time they asked us to do so and we succumbed to their pressure, things happened; the Ebola cases rose and what did they do? They the same people who asked us to lift the restrictions turned around and blamed us. So this time, we are not going to listen to them. We will lift the Emergency restrictions after WHO declares the country to be Ebola free which will be at end of 42 continuous days of zero Ebola cases”.

President Koroma has also warned that anyone who defies the Emergency restrictions or who attempts to bypass seeking lawful clearance for any proposed activity, will face the full force of the law no matter the person’s status. He said those threatening impending violence should take note that the APC now leading the government is not a party to be threatened. Continuing to speak in Krio, the President said threats of violence will not intimidate APC as they were a “Kal’banthay” (indomitable) grassroots party which cannot be intimidated with “Open-Call” (browbeating).
