Sierra Leone: Ernest Koroma Will Leave a Strong IMC

USA’s first black President has stated that: “Africa doesn’t need strongmen, it needs strong institutions”.
Barack Obama meant that if modern Institutions are working well in an African country, that country does not need a Dictator to ensure law and order prevails.
Sierra Leone Independent Media Commission (IMC) is a very important institution as the media can make or break a land. However, former SLPP government left behind a very dysfunctional IMC in 2007.
After many years of suffering malaise of rotten IMC, President Koroma this year took the bull by the horns and has irreversibly built a truly functional and truly independent IMC for the first time in this country!
Going by amazing strides a revamped IMC institution has been taking in first half of this year, I can safely state that one of the legacies of Koroma’s Presidency will be that whilst he inherited a totally messed-up and dysfunctional IMC media regulator, he left behind a fully functional one enjoying confidence of citizens.
His Excellency the President now needs to ensure IMC gets due funding from this capable government.
