One of the leading private universities in Sierra Leone, the Institute of Advanced Management and Technology (IAMTECH), an affiliate of Njala University Sierra Leone on Saturday 6th May 2017 conveyed its annual convocation ceremony for the award of Degrees, Diplomas and other academic awards at its Abie Paula Kamara Amphitheatre in Kissy Dock Yard, East of Freetown.

This year’s graduation ceremony merged with the Institution’s Silver Jubilee of 25-year of growth and educational excellence in Sierra Leone.

Speaking on behalf of the Institute, Acting Principal, Dr. Michael Nicolas Wundah stated that the Institute is celebrating its twenty-five (25) years of uninterrupted existence and the vision was born by Professor Paul Kamara and his wife. He went on that; the institute has produced and continue to produce many graduates in the country that are contributing to the socio-economic development of the country. He added that they also have affiliation with Universities in the USA, China and other African Countries.

Dr. Michael N. Wundah furthered that IAMTECH believe in quality assurance and examination malpractices has no place in the institution. “Examinations are conducted under strict conditions with conference marking. Second marking is done by Heads of Department and senior lecturers from Njala University” Dr. Wundah said. He went on that IAMTECH is well capacitated with qualified and highly motivated staff in different departments as they use modern system of lecturing with smart board, a centre to monitor class room activity, fully equipped computer lab with internet access, electronic library with electronic books to name but few.

The Acting Principal disclosed that though they are currently enjoying a good relationship with Njala University, they are strongly fighting to gain autonomous status to operate on their own, he said “We are not a vigilante Institution, we will do it by the due process as we now have campuses in Bo, Kono, Portloko to name but few. We are currently on massive infrastructural development with a modern six-story building to be completed soon” he called on graduates to go out and be useful to their communities and the nation in general.

Delivering the convocation address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Njala University, Professor Alpha Lakoh said Convocation address was usually carried by President Koroma who is the Chancellor of Njala University but over the years, due to workload, such responsibility has been delegated to the Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University who has sent him to perform such duty.

Professor Alpha Lakoh noted that the occasion is in two folds; as the cutting edge of students and the occasion also marked the Silver Jubilee of the Institution. Professor Lakoh salutes the administration of IAMTECH for what he described as a long journey since its inception to date. On behalf of Njala University, he vowed to support IAMTECH in their fight for autonomous status as the government is currently working in the creation of new Universities in the country.

To the graduates, the Njala DVC charged them that “We are sending you with papers but what you will become in the future depends on your output. Go and make a difference in your society to help build a better future for generation to come. Again, don’t forget IAMTECH”
